Acorn Guest House

The owners were kind and welcoming, and made us feel at home. They were genuinely interested in our stories, almost like family. Our room was lovely and had all we needed, including a very comfortable bed. The front was a bit noisy with the windows open, but we all slept through it easily. Breakfast was nice, with great fresh fruit, though there wasn’t a continental option. We’re looking forward to staying again.

We needed somewhere safe for the bike and room for our luggage, and both were available, so we’ll definitely be back. We especially enjoyed visiting Stanhope, which Gordon recommended. Room 3 was quirky, with lots of space and a separate bathroom. Watch your head in the link passageway. The room was very comfortable, the linens were great quality and we slept really well. Breakfast was just right for us. Gordon and Jocelyn were engaging, helpful and friendly, with a great sense of humour and plenty of banter and laughs. We also got to meet Fergus, their 5 month old black Labrador. The Acorn Guest House itself was lovely, and Gordon and Jocelyn were wonderful hosts. We absolutely loved our stay and would easily recommend it.

I’ve been staying here for six days while working away from my family, and it’s been the best place I’ve stayed. The family who run the guest house made me feel welcome, more like one of their own. Breakfast is top quality and the rooms are clean and always smell fresh. I’ll miss this lovely couple. I highly recommend it.

Tea and coffee making in the room was great to have. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious, bright and nicely decorated. Gordon and Jocelyn were wonderful hosts and knew the area well. We had a lovely stay at the Acorn.
