After six days camping, I treated myself to a night here. The room was clean, good value, and very dog friendly, and the receptionists were welcoming. Breakfast had plenty of options, and there was no wait for the cooked food. Dinner was another matter: we waited over an hour for the chicken supreme, which was tasty but not haute cuisine. I'd recommend the hotel for its location, lovely rooms, and dog friendly feel, but would eat out in the evening.

The rooms were amazing, and I loved the older features, including the uneven floors on the stairs. They give the place a sense of age, and I enjoyed asking about its history. But dinner was a letdown. The menu promised pork belly and crispy crackling, but the skin was so tough you'd need a hammer to crack it, and I'll say no more about the belly pork. At around £25, it wouldn't even fit on a saucer. The staff's attitude was that they couldn't care less, though it wasn't their problem. Such a shame for a nice place.

Bar 1597 was lovely and warm, and the menu had loads of choices. Most of the food was lovely, but one main course had a piece of plastic in it. Staff handled it well, refunded us, offered a replacement and a free drink. Still, it wasn't a great experience, and I'm not sure I'd hurry back.

We felt really welcome, and the staff were nice. The hotel has lovely older features and really unique decor, and breakfast was good too. Highly recommend it, and we'll book again in the future. 👍😊

My room was on the small side and a little tired, but it was clean, the bed was comfy, and the shower was hot. The receptionist gave me a very warm welcome, and all the staff were lovely. I didn't catch her name, but she's from Durham. We had a delicious sandwich in the lobby that evening, and breakfast the next day was lovely too. It's a quaint hotel with bags of character. Lovely place.
