The Thirsty Scholar

The staff were all lovely, and Adele was a superwoman, sharing the pub's history with us. We had dinner and breakfast there too; both were quick and delicious. We were in Penryn to see the university, and Penryn Campus was really close. The town was nearby as well, with the beach an easy drive away. A great place to stay.

The roast is genuinely brilliant, with generous portions and a good variety on the plate. Book ahead, though. We missed out twice. I've eaten here a few times over the past year, usually choosing either the roast or one of the excellent burgers, which come in good portions. The food is lovely, there's a fair range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and some days have good offers. Inside there's a reasonable amount of room, plus outdoor seating, some of it covered. I've taken off a star because the mains seem a little expensive. On our last visit the service felt a bit abrupt, though it was very busy and seemed like one person was handling both the bar and food service.

The manager was so attentive, and we even received a little treat. We were there for a fantastic roast to celebrate our 25th anniversary and my husband's birthday. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great. Thank you, Frederico, for everything. I'd highly recommend it for a special occasion or just a nice meal out.

The host was warm and personable, and I'd absolutely recommend staying here. The bedroom was clean, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom spacious. I had a lovely stay recently and would happily come back.
