There are loads of pitches at this great caravan site on Edinburgh’s outskirts, from basic grass to hardstanding with EHU, plus shepherd huts and statics. It’s about a 4-mile walk into town, or there’s a bus every 10 minutes. The pub and restaurant on site are great, with a massive beer selection. I’m told the wine list is good too, and they’re very dog friendly. The new toilet block is fabulous, and the older blocks are superb as well, just without underfloor heating.

We picked a fully serviced hardstanding pitch for our motorhome at this large, busy campsite. The facilities were a good selection and clean, and we enjoyed the onsite bar and restaurant. Prices were reasonable too. The number 11 bus runs very regularly from the main road beside the site, taking around 30 minutes to reach Edinburgh city centre.

The staff at check-in were welcoming, friendly, and really helpful. The pitches are generously sized, with picnic benches nearby, and the clean, modern toilet and shower blocks were very well maintained. The new building also has kettles and a microwave, plus a pleasant seating area for eating or chatting. A number 11 bus stops right outside and goes straight into Edinburgh. A single ticket is £2.40, so it’s an easy, affordable way to get into the city. The onsite restaurant and bar are handy, though they get busy and it’s best to book ahead. For another meal nearby, Beijing Banquet (EH22 1PJ) is a good option, with tasty food and plenty of parking that works well for campervans.

We stayed at mortonhall Campsite over the Bank holiday weekend, and its facilities and location were spot on for our time in Edinburgh. After doing the Nc500, we’d planned to stop at mortonhall halfway home. Our van broke down on the morning we were due to arrive, though, and because it was so close to the booking, their terms meant we couldn’t get a refund. Since it was outside our control, a partial or credit refund would have been nice.

The touring pitch had excellent facilities, and the site was in a great location. Our campervan stay was nice, but the pitches are packed quite close together on this large site. We were kept awake by a group gathering next to us. Some extra landscaping, like hedges, could give pitches more separation and help block sound.
