Our en-suite double room looked out over Newlyn Harbour and was comfortable and well equipped. The Swordfish Inn was a convenient stop on the way to the Scilly Isles, with beach walks and places to eat nearby, and it worked perfectly for our Scillonian ferry to the IOS. Getting parked was the awkward part. The car park next door is free after 6pm, something we would have liked to know in advance. The other long-stay car park is about half a mile away up a fairly steep hill, not much fun with luggage. We chose the Sunday before a public holiday, so pub customers were still noisy after midnight. On Monday, by special request, they served us an excellent full breakfast very early.

It was packed on Fish Friday evening, with a great buzz. Mine host found us somewhere to sit and made us feel welcome and valued. Before long we had a good pint and a large wine, chatting with the locals and feeling at home. We had to pull ourselves away for dinner after a few more drinks. We were visiting Newlyn (m&f) and stopped in at the 'fish. A really enjoyable evening, 10/10 for a proper pub. We'll be back.

The room above the pub was a great size and very clean, with tea, coffee and water provided. Breakfast was lovely and good value, and the friendly staff were happy to help with anything. There's a cash point at the Co op. The Chinese takeaway next door only takes cash, but the food is very good. You can park outside if there's a space, otherwise there's a long-stay car park nearby. I'd stay again.

We came for a couples weekend and to watch the rugby, and the place felt like home as soon as we arrived. The rooms were delightful, the staff were so helpful, and breakfast was amazing, just the right amount after a slightly heavy night. I almost don't want to tell people how good it is because I want to be able to book again, but if you're staying in or around Penzance, don't overlook it. Hope to return soon.

After an evening of live music from Cajun band Lafayette, we slept with a view over Newlyn Harbour. Breakfast was a very good full English made with local ingredients, nothing like standard supermarket food.
