Sands Farm Cottages

We weren’t there to watch TV or admire the decor, and the dated cottage furnishings and technology were outweighed by the location and hot tub. The older touches even add to its charm. Poppy Cottage was comfortable and convenient, exactly what we needed for a relaxing stay, and we’ll be back next time we’re in the area. Andy & Julie were fantastic hosts, friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The location is great for exploring, and it was lovely to meet Oscar (the dog) too.

We had a really nice few days at Sands Farm in Jasmine cottage. It was warm with central heating, and everything we needed was provided. The hot tub was a nice extra. Julie and her family made us feel very welcome.

The view from this quiet, beautiful location is stunning, and it’s easy to understand why summer guests rate the cottage highly. In autumn and winter, though, we found the heating struggled with the cold and the shower water wouldn’t get very warm. We also thought the kitchen and sofa blankets needed more attention for a rental at this price. We had to pay extra for wood for the fire stove, which felt like a budget measure rather than a service. When we raised concerns, the host called us drama queens, which didn’t feel professional. Guests are paying for comfort, and the repeated little extras left us feeling as if the place was run to collect more money at every turn. The view was great, but given what we got, we left feeling we’d paid too much.

We had everything we needed in Poppy cottage, and the log burner gave it a cosy, traditional feel. Andrew & Julie were really helpful hosts. We spent four nights there and had a lovely stay. Using the hot tub on those cold, dark evenings was especially nice.
