The Poplars Guest House

The views from this place up on the hill were stunning, and it was a highlight of our two-week trek from London. Nancy was so welcoming and had thought of every little thing, from plenty of coat hooks to USB charging points on both sides of the bed. After hiking, the five-star bath was a great way to recharge. Breakfast was made just how we wanted it, a lovely start to another day there. There’s nothing I can think of to put in the negative column for Poplars. I only wish we’d had more time to stay.

The hosts, especially Nancy, were wonderful. Breakfast was fantastic, including porridge with wee whisky. It’s a family home dating from the 1800s, and looking out at the misty hills in the morning made us think of Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters. We loved the location, the comfortable newly refurbished rooms and the lovely linens.

Scott and Nancy made us feel so welcome in their beautiful home. Our room was lovely, breakfast delicious, and there was a stunning view over the front gardens and beyond. The main part of town is only a short walk away. Such a lovely spot, we’ll definitely come back.

Nancy was such a friendly, hospitable host, and even made breakfast on time for our early departure. The room was clean, comfortable and well kept. It’s a peaceful place to stay, but still only an eight-minute walk from the town centre and its range of shops and restaurants.
