Very quiet, even though the lodges are just off the main road, and there’s parking on site. Ours was in excellent condition, with everything provided and a new bathroom and shower. The lodges are lovely, and make an ideal country weekend retreat. One has a small private courtyard, while another looks over the large pond. Friendly hosts, highly recommended.

We’d booked a place in nearby Iden, but found it musty and dirty when we arrived, so we needed somewhere else or we’d have spent the night in the car. Jackie and John at Woodies couldn’t have been more accommodating. We arrived around dusk, and Jackie waved from the road to help us find the place. The two wooden lodges have been renovated as holiday lets in lovely gardens. The website photos really don’t do them justice. Our retreat was spacious, with a secluded patio and a stunning, sparkling bathroom. We slept well, and even with the patio door slightly open, there was no road noise. It was well equipped for a longer stay too. Thank you, Jackie and John.

A good little base for our one-night stay, and good value. It’s self-contained and was lovely and warm when we arrived. Fresh milk in the fridge meant we could make a cuppa straight away. The owner was friendly and helpful. Parking was the only downside, though it wasn’t a major problem; it might be tricky for a less confident driver. I’d recommend it.

Pondview feels peaceful, cosy and lovely. The renovations have made it even cosier than before, and John and Jackie are thoughtful hosts. They’d left milk and shortbread for us when we arrived. We’ve stayed twice and will be back. Carl and Julie. My husband looks at John like he’s his father.

We were lucky with the weather and got the pond view. In the evening we sat inside with the French doors open, watching the birds and listening for the occasional plip as a fish surfaced. It’s a warm, welcoming family-run spot just outside Rye, around 12 miles from Hastings and Battle. We loved it and would definitely stay again.
