Rainbow Lodge - Guest house

The room was tidy and clean, but I never felt relaxed. It felt like I was an unwanted guest in someone else’s home. After checking in, I didn’t see anyone for the two days I was there. Noise kept me awake, including banging, cooking smells from the owners’ accommodation, and very loud snoring from the room above. I understand the owners can’t control the snoring. I’d already called Jeffrey about breakfast, after discovering it wasn’t offered even though many listings suggested it was. He said he couldn’t control what other sites advertised, and that I should have booked directly or through Booking.com. I went ahead with the two nights anyway because I’m not used to booking or cancelling stays. I got no sleep and felt exhausted and miserable, so I checked out at 6am on the second morning. I wouldn’t stay at the Caledonia again. It might suit other people, but it wasn’t a good experience for me 😕

Jeff was so helpful when I had to leave another hotel because the owner was ill. He arranged a second-floor room for me, even though I was on crutches with a broken knee. It was lovely and clean, and the ensuite was too. The beds were very comfortable, with crisp sheets, and having a little private car park at the back was a bonus. I visit Plymouth twice a year and will definitely stay again. Thanks for all your help. I wish every guest house host were this good x

I stayed at several hotels and guest houses over 14 days, and this was my favourite. The hosts welcomed us warmly and carried my suitcase all the way to the top floor. The bedrooms were lovely and clean, the beds comfortable with crisp sheets, and the shared bathroom was immaculate, with spare towels and toiletries. The location’s brilliant. It’s a ten-minute walk to the Barbican, even closer to the coast where we went swimming, and the harbour and aquarium are nearby too. I’d highly recommend this guest house. You won’t be disappointed!

We booked at the last minute for two nights and weren’t sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. Jeffrey and Maria gave us a very warm welcome. Our room was bright and clean, and the ensuite spotless. Maria made a really good breakfast. Nothing to fault, and if we’re back in Plymouth, we’ll try to stay here again. Thanks for a great stay.
