Lanelay Hall Hotel & Spa

We’ll be back for the lovely setting and because of Ben, who we knew from his previous workplace. He gave us wonderful service at the BLOK restaurant, always professional, charming, polite and helpful. The Sunday lunch at Lanelay Hall was lovely, and the place is beautifully decorated. The food and wine choices are great. My lamb was tough and chewy, but everything else was delicious.

The bar was lovely for relaxed evenings, the barman was great, and breakfast was very good with lovely staff. The property is beautifully presented, and our bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed. But the bathroom needed more shelf space, and there was nowhere to unpack suitcases. Staff didn’t seem very keen to find a luggage rack and weren’t helpful about printing tickets. I also found it strange that some spa access is free while the rest costs £25 per person. I wouldn’t come back or recommend the hotel.

The suite was gorgeous and really spacious, and the spa is one of the best we’ve been to. We had an amazing stay here for our wedding anniversary last year. Dinner at Blok was fantastic, and breakfast in bed the next morning was a lovely finishing touch. One of our favourite stays ever.

The hotel is set inside a housing development, which was a confusing surprise at first and left my partner and me a bit deflated. Once inside, though, it was fabulous: sympathetically restored, nicely decorated, and the rooms were finished and fitted to a high standard. Staff were attentive, especially Ieuan in the bar, who was a star, and the atmosphere suited a relaxing night. The bar food was good value and came quickly. It may suit people who want to stay on the property for a spa break, but those wanting a local walk before or after dinner, or somewhere to stop after a drive, may find the location disappointing.
