The Canford

I don’t usually leave restaurant feedback, but Lizzie’s service at the Canford last Sunday evening really stood out. She explained the menu clearly and worked with the kitchen to adjust our order for our dietary requirements. She paid such close attention to what we needed.

We had a lovely weekend getaway, and as someone who works for Youngs, I enjoyed getting to stay at another pub with rooms. Our accessible room was downstairs, really spacious, and had lovely decor. It did get a bit noisy early in the morning and late at night, possibly because the office is opposite. Breakfast was lovely and the service was great. We’re hoping to come back in summer when the weather’s better!

The apple and rhubarb crumble with custard was piping hot and delicious. The chicken main was okay, with a lovely sauce, though the leg was tough. We chose the winter set menu, which was good value at £23 for three courses or £19 for two. The mackerel pâté starter tasted very good, but the portion was huge, maybe a bit too much. The restaurant had plenty of space between tables, and our waiter was very attentive.

After our walk, eight of us had lunch at a lovely table in the conservatory. Great value, excellent food, and wonderful service from Daniele, who was friendly, attentive, and professional.
