We came to Porthcawl for my birthday and stayed in the family room. It felt so welcoming, with everything laid out beautifully, fresh towels, tea, coffee and hot chocolate, and a really comfortable bed. The room was spotless and tidy, and you can tell how much care has gone into the hotel. We wanted to add another night, but family commitments meant we had to leave. We’ll definitely come back.

The staff were kind and helpful, and even found me an iron and ironing board. Our room looked great, was clean, and had a really nice bathroom with plenty of towels. Getting in was easy thanks to the clear messages, though be prepared for quite a few stairs if your room is on an upper floor. It’s close to the seafront, and I’d book here again if I’m back in the area.

For £177 for two nights, I expected more. There was no breakfast, and nobody met us when we arrived. We had to use one code to enter the building and another to get our room key. The double room was clean, but very small. The ensuite was so cramped that you could use the sink and toilet at the same time, and my husband hit his head when he leaned down to pick something up. There was barely room to dry off after a shower. We got no soap and only tiny sample bottles of shower gel and body lotion. The photos also show a dining room, which we didn’t have access to. I know Covid changed how things are done, but the price should reflect the service, or lack of it.

I’ve been here for a few work nights recently, and it’s a much nicer change from chain hotels. Alice is very helpful, the room is beautifully decorated, and the bed is unbelievably comfortable. They make the beds each day and leave fresh towels. On arrival, you get the front door code by text and collect your key from a lockbox. There are several good restaurants just a few minutes away. If you can’t find street parking, there’s a big car park across the road that’s free after 6pm. The one small drawback was the weak shower pressure, but I’d happily recommend the place and stay again next time I’m here.

We spent two nights here and would happily return. The manager was friendly, easy to reach, and the place was clean, cosy, and modern. The bed was the comfiest ever, and being so central meant restaurants were right on the doorstep. Got a few decorating ideas for when we redo our own place, too. 10/10.
