Catherine House - Campus Accommodation

I really liked my room, but there’s a huge silverfish problem and maintenance is slow. One receptionist is lovely, while another is mean. The lift in Block D was out for over a month. I’m asthmatic and live on the 10th floor, and when I asked for alternative accommodation because of the inconvenience, I was basically laughed at 💀. The fire alarm also goes off randomly at night, and they confirmed it was due to an unfixed fault. For the money, I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The lifts are a serious problem: the one in D block has been broken for over a week in an 11-story building. Tenants with disabilities don’t seem to be getting attention, even though people have made many complaints to staff. The building is rarely cleaned, and there’s a silverfish infestation, probably because hygiene rules aren’t being followed. Honestly, this is the worst accommodation I’ve come across. Save your money and stay at a travelodge instead.

I paid £80 for a room full of bugs, with stains from seminal liquid and shit all over the toilet. It was the most horrible and embarrassing situation I’ve ever been in. I nearly threw up, handed the keys straight back to reception, and they refused a refund, offering just £18 compensation. Booking.com told me I had to deal with the hotel myself to recover the rest, but the hotel refused to pay. I’m speaking with a lawyer now to take this further legally.

I spent one Saturday night in their Portsmouth property, a brand new building right beside Portsmouth and South sea station. The room on the third floor was good and comfortable, with its own shower. There’s also a TV room and a communal kitchen, though the kitchen only has a kettle and a mug. The sound insulation was poor. Traffic and crowds leaving the centre of Portsmouth were audible until around 4am.
