Me and Mrs. Jones

The food was good and our server was good too, but they had far too many tables and clearly no time. We had to fetch menus ourselves after sitting down, waited ages to order, never got our drinks, and had to ask for water three times. We weren’t hotel guests, just there for dinner. The place was completely understaffed.

The hotel is beautiful, but the cleaning, food and service let it down. Our room hadn’t been fully cleaned: there was a previous guest’s hair clip on the bathroom floor and a tissue in the robe pocket. At breakfast, only two staff were on; the bread was so hard it couldn’t be eaten, and the tea we ordered never arrived. It’s a shame, and it feels like management may be cutting corners. At £280 a night, I don’t think it’s worth the price.

The food itself was fine, but the service was poor enough that we left without pudding and won’t be back. We waited half an hour for our starter, then the main arrived at the same time. We sent it back so it wouldn’t be cold by the time we finished the starter. When it came again, my chips were freezing and had to go back too. We watched two other tables get their food after only ten minutes. Everyone else seemed to get glasses and a jug of water, while we had to ask for ours.

We took a chance on dinner during a busy Easter weekend and Olivia found us a table. The meal was beautiful, and the surroundings and ambience made the evening special. Olivia was professional throughout, and the service was exceptional. A great member of staff, thank you.
