The setting is lovely, with a big car park and a nice area to walk around after eating. We went for Sunday lunch/dinner, and the food was excellent: freshly cooked, piping hot, and really well seasoned. They'd run out of stock for the Sunday roast, which was the only reason I took off a star. I'll come back and try it when it's available.

We had to find somewhere else for lunch. I'd arranged to meet a friend here, but when we arrived the kitchen was being decorated and they couldn't serve food. There was nothing on the website to warn us, so it was disappointing.

The landlord was good company and poured a fine pint, so we're heading back for a meal this week. It's a traditional village pub with good beer, plenty of other drinks to choose from, and a varied menu. A really enjoyable visit.

There was even a bit of live music while we were there. We had a lovely meal, the service was great, and the portions were a good size. We'll be back.

We called in on both our southbound and northbound trips along the Grand Union canal. It's a relaxed pub and cafe, with welcoming staff and nice, clean larger. Definitely worth a visit.
