The Bridge

Liz and her team made everything feel easy, and were so welcoming throughout our stay at The Bridge in Prestbury. The hotel is comfortable and charming, and we had delicious food in the restaurant with excellent service. It was a memorable visit, and we can't wait to return. Ben, Sarah and Rupert!

For the £200 we paid, I don't think room 5 was good value. The room was small, with a tiny en suite, and a loud chain or box kept making noise for ages whenever we flushed or used the shower or taps. The Booking.com advert showed a gorgeous room with a bathtub, but what we got was nothing like it, despite being called the “finest room”. When we arrived, there was nobody to greet us at reception; once someone finally appeared, we were told the room would take another two hours to be ready. The place seemed very understaffed, and I can't think of a staff member who was even remotely friendly. Both the evening meal and breakfast were below average. We were directly above the stairs, where a big crowd downstairs kept shouting and screaming, so we couldn't sleep. We stayed here for Valentine's Day earlier in the year in a more basic room in the other part of the building, and that was better: more space, better views, a nicer room with a bathtub, and it would've cost less. We came back for our anniversary because we'd been so impressed last time. To say we were disappointed is a huge understatement.

The restaurant food was beautiful, and the manager did move us to a suitable room after we arrived. At first we'd been given a standard double with a badly scratched dresser, and it didn't feel worth £170. The hotel as a whole needs a revamp for the prices they're asking. On first look the room seemed lovely and clean, but I have a dust allergy and woke at 2am wheezing and feeling ill. My husband pulled apart the two single beds that had been made into a double, and underneath it was an inch deep in dust, with two takeaway trays as well. I emailed management but haven't had a reply. For a stay at that price, I'd look elsewhere.

The staff saved the stay for us, especially the lovely young waitress at breakfast. I also liked that they left a dog bed and bowls in the room. The dining area was pretty, but we were still a little disappointed with the place overall. The interior looked tired and uncared for, with paint scraped off the walls and black mould in both the bathroom and bedroom. The toilet seat lid came off in my hand, and the TV was so quiet we couldn't turn it up, so we gave up on it. Thanks to the staff for being so lovely.
