The Red Lion was handy for local walks, including The Ridgeway and Phoenix Trail, and there’s parking at the back. Sam was really friendly and welcoming, and I’d happily recommend staying here or come back myself. I stayed two nights with a friend for a weekend of walking. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with everything we needed. Fresh milk in the fridge was a particular treat for making proper tea in the morning. We ate in the restaurant both nights. There was a great choice, and the homemade burger was amazing. The sausage and mash on the second night was a real treat too, generously portioned and perfect after a day walking. There was an extensive dessert menu, and I chose the delicious Treacle Sponge pudding with custard.

For work, I’ve now stayed at The Red Lion three times. The rooms are lovely, the food is great, and Sam always makes me feel welcome.

It’s a favourite local spot where you can feel at home over a traditional meal, a pint and a chat with the locals. The food is delicious and the people are always friendly. The pub is old and traditional, a little tired, and not a fancy place with overpriced dishes. A lovely local pub and restaurant.

Free parking behind the pub and self check-out were convenient. I had a comfy bed, a clean room and a good shower, and really appreciated the fridge with fresh milk. I stayed one night in a single room while travelling alone to a family event nearby. The landlord and landlady were friendly and attentive, and she made sure I felt welcome. I had good quality, freshly cooked pub grub in the bar area. It’s popular with working guys, and it’s good to support a local business instead of a chain.
