Radstock Hotel near Bath

The other two rooms were just okay. They seem to have had a quick coat of paint, but it's a shame it went straight over the old wallpaper and border. Our room was much worse: very dated, with a filthy sofa and carpet, and old dust about a centimetre thick on the light fittings and four-poster bed. The shower was mouldy, although the bed was clean. When we arrived, our three rooms had mistakenly been given to someone else. We were asked to wait in the restaurant while the other guests were moved out and all the linen was changed. We did get a complimentary drink, which was nice.

I won't stay here again. In room 5, the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable, and I had back pain during the night. The room felt run down and outdated, and the window didn't let in enough breeze to cool things down. Opening it only brought in road noise because the room is right by the main road. The radiator beside the toilet was blazing hot, making the small room like a sauna, and I burnt my leg on it when using the toilet. The radiator by the bed was off. I reported the problem twice to staff behind the bar, but they did nothing and said I'd be glad it was on when it got cold at 3am. It was a very unpleasant night's stay.

Martin, the sassy manager, was up for a bit of banter, and all the staff were really friendly, taking time to say hello and chat. #samantha the chef was lovely, and I really enjoyed both breakfast and Sunday dinner at the attached restaurant, @TheMinersRest. I also popped into the museum across the road, which opens after 2:00, and it was well worth seeing. The hotel is an old building in the middle of renovations, so there's plenty of potential. My room was large, with a huge window over the main road, which worried me at first, but things went quiet after about 9:30. With the window open and curtains closed, I slept really well. The shower was spacious and powerful. It's 16 minutes from the Avon Parking Lot in Bath, and a good option if you want to avoid Bath's high prices. Thanks for a great stay!

The place has been done up really nicely. We stopped in for breakfast, and my wife's omelette came out burnt, but they replaced it quickly and everything was fine. Nice place.
