The Bird In Hand

The staff made a real difference to my stay, especially at reception and the managers. They helped with my heavy bags and online orders, found a cable when I’d forgotten mine, and checked the bus stop information for me. The dinner waitresses were lovely and accommodating about my allergies, and the breakfast receptionist was just as friendly. I’ve stayed three times before and enjoy it in summer too, when the garden is a lovely place to have a drink. The hotel itself is very pretty, and the food is really nice. My room was spacious, the radiators worked well in winter, and most things in the room were fine. The toilet looked a bit grotty, with dirty stains despite being clean, and the entrance light hadn’t worked since I arrived, so it felt quite dark at times.

Our two small dogs were made to feel very welcome, and the room was lovely, with thoughtful touches like real coffee instead of instant or a Nespresso machine. The staff were friendly and helpful, and it was quiet at night. We were there for one night to visit family in Maidenhead, and we’ll definitely stay again next time.

The breakfast menu felt a bit limited, and on the first morning we waited a very long time even though the restaurant was empty. The cooked food arrived alongside the cereal, which was odd. The next two mornings were fine, with orders taken and brought out quickly. Our room was excellent, tastefully decorated, with quality furniture and two comfortable beds. The ensuite had a good shower and bath, Wi-Fi worked well, and parking was easy, with an on-site charging point for our car. Breakfast itself was good quality and cooked to order. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

The welcome was warm from the moment I arrived. The Bird in Hand is conveniently set back from the A4, with plenty of parking. After a long, wet drive, its cheerful look was a welcome sight. My room was spotless. A central light would have brightened it, but the building’s age and style didn’t allow for one. The small table lamps more than made up for it and suited the place’s charm. I’m already looking forward to returning just after Christmas and trying the interesting cocktail menu.
