The attic room has lovely views over the weir on the River Swale and across the countryside, and there’s another great view from the terrace. The owners were very welcoming and happy to help, and the food was good. My only grumbles were the many stairs between the attic and breakfast room, and the low ceiling in the attic, which was a problem.

The veggie breakfast was delicious, and Jillian was such a friendly, helpful host. This was one of the best B&Bs I’ve stayed in. Just a heads-up, there are lots of stairs, so it may not suit you if stairs are a problem ;-)

The views of the falls are lovely, and we spent a happy while on the back patio with wine and books, watching families enjoy the water. The place is also brilliantly located, under a two-minute walk from the castle and town centre, yet quiet enough that we didn’t hear the noise. The road up from town is quite steep, though, and the rooms are reached by a couple of flights of stairs, so bear that in mind if getting around is difficult. Jill made us feel like family as soon as we arrived, much like staying at an aunt’s house. Our attic room was small but very cosy, and the dormer window looked out toward the keep of Richmond castle. We liked it so much it was one of our favourite rooms of the whole trek. The other room has a view over the Swale falls, though it’s a bit smaller than the castle-view room. The bed was really comfortable, and for our two-night stay in Richmond the room was a lovely place to rest. Breakfast was delicious, and Jill was delightful company. We’d happily stay again.

The attic room badly needs somewhere to put clothes. There were no drawers, and the little cupboard they called a wardrobe seemed made for a hobbit. The landlady was wonderful, though, and breakfast was good. The place is desperately in need of updating.

The views are beautiful, and the hosts are warm and friendly. The decor feels a little old fashioned and there are a lot of stairs, but if those things don’t bother you, it’s a great place and amazing value for money.
