West End Guest House

Breakfast was fabulous, and there’s free parking as well. The house is spotless, and our room had all those thoughtful little extras that made it feel so comfortable. Emma was a lovely host and was happy to help with anything. It’s set back from the road in a really nice spot, about a 10-minute walk to the town centre. One of the best guest houses we’ve stayed in.

The room itself was clean and very nice, which made the lack of a welcome even more disappointing. Nobody greeted us when we arrived, and without a common area the place felt a bit like a boarding school. I think I’d have been better off in a hotel, where I’d at least expect a “good afternoon” when checking in.

We had a lovely five nights and couldn’t have asked for more. The double room was very comfortable, with a really spacious en-suite, and there was tea, coffee, biscuits and more in the room. Breakfast had an excellent range of options, and the hosts were so helpful. There’s plenty of off-road parking, and it’s only about a 10-minute walk into the centre of Richmond. Many thanks, Emma and Mark!

I spent the stay feeling as though I had to tread carefully, even at breakfast the next morning. The host kept talking about people bringing in muddy boots, though I wasn’t planning to wear mine inside. Maybe she was just having a bad day, but a friendlier, more welcoming manner would have made this a very pleasant stay.
