The Bull Inn

The fellow who served us was canny. We were staying nearby and came in for a family meal. Four of us had steak and ale pies, with fish and chips for my son, and we had pale ale, cider and Cokes. The bill came to £113. The pies were okay, though I’ve had better, and my son thought his fish and chips were decent. I’d return if I’m in the area, but I’d choose something different next time.

We had a lovely two-night stopover over New Year. The room was spacious and clean, and the food was really good. There’s a new landlord, but Emma and the rest of the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was a good start to the day. I’d love to come back in summer and enjoy the large beer garden by the river, as well as the many good walks.

We didn’t try the food, so I can’t comment on it, but the staff were courteous and helpful. It’s a friendly local pub set up mainly for dining. I had two Theakstons on cask, and the Peculiar IPA at £4.80 seemed a fair price. The beer garden is beautiful, right by the road bridge over the river. A lot of it is covered, so we could still enjoy sitting out in the evening.

The staff and other pub-goers were all amazing, and we felt comfortable and welcome throughout our stay. My partner, our dog Tyke and I had a really good time here. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice place to stay. We’ll be back in summer!
