The burger and chips at Royal Oak were delicious. The burger was juicy, full of flavour and cooked just right, while the chips were crisp outside and fluffy inside. With the fire on and the TV playing, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. A young girl with glasses served us, and she was friendly, attentive and happy to help with anything. They clearly care about the food and hospitality. I’ll be back and would recommend it to anyone visiting Ripon.

The gammon chop on the bone was delicious, with a runny-yolked egg and perfect chips. The food was excellent, made from good ingredients, simply but perfectly cooked, well seasoned and full of flavour. One of the best pub lunches I’ve had in a long time. We dropped in yesterday without booking to see if they could fit two of us and our dog in for lunch. Luckily there’d been a no-show, so the lovely staff found us a table in the dog-friendly area. Service was friendly and professional all the way through. Well done to the Kitchen and Front of House teams. We’ll be back soon!

The location is excellent, near the cathedral and market place. The bedrooms are large, service is friendly, the bar is okay and breakfast was nice. The granola was particularly good. There may have been parking round the back near the many no-parking signs, but the public parking by Sainsbury's was very good value by UK standards at £2.90 for the whole day. The toilet flush had some problems, though I was assured it would be sorted immediately. I’d suggest adding coasters or beer mats for the nicely varnished bedside cabinets.

The lamb was fantastic, and my girlfriend really enjoyed her chicken too. We both left full and happy. We hadn't booked, but the staff still managed to find us a table on a busy Sunday. We'd definitely recommend it for lunch.

The atmosphere was exactly what we needed, calm and relaxed, and the service was spot on. It was our first visit, just for tea, and the food was stunning. We didn't stay overnight, so I can't say anything about the rooms.
