We stayed at The Hope & Anchor and ate in the pub. The food was the highlight by far. The sweet potato and five spice soup was honestly the best I've ever had, and I still want the recipe. The scotch egg was full of flavour and cooked just right. My steak was fresh, cooked exactly as I wanted, and came with generous sides. The chicken with mushrooms was perfectly cooked too, with a rich, balanced sauce that tasted carefully made. We finished with a big portion of sticky toffee pudding, just right between rich and spongy. The room was nice, though fairly basic, and the walls were very thin. It could use a bit of TLC. Breakfast the next morning, a proper full English, was immaculate. The staff and service were brilliant throughout. The room was okay, but the food was exceptional. I'd recommend eating here 100 times over, it was lovely.

The riverside setting was lovely, the bar had a nice atmosphere, and the barman was a delight. He let us choose the songs and kept the mix going afterwards. We stopped in late on a Sunday afternoon, hoping for starters and dessert, but the kitchen was closed around 4. That was disappointing, especially as food was still coming out for at least half an hour after we arrived. We weren't allowed to sit upstairs.

The food was freshly cooked and delicious, and the menu covers all dietary requirements. Staff were friendly and welcoming as soon as we came in. It's a lovely scenic pub by the river, with a big beer garden, and dogs are welcome too. Definitely recommend it, and we're planning to come back.

This was the second year we've held our Christmas function at The Hope & Anchor, and everything was just right. The venue was clean and set up well for the festivities, and the food was outstanding. The staff worked nonstop, kept everyone informed and looked after the group with smiles all night. We booked all 12 rooms. Everyone commented on how comfortable they were and how lovely breakfast was. Thanks for making our Christmas festivities such fun.

The room was comfortable and nicely furnished, with a good shower and lovely toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, hand wash and hand lotion. Breakfast was in the gorgeous adjoining building. The spot is beautiful, right by the river and only a short hop from Ross town centre. We had a lovely stay and will be back. Thank you.
