Corona Hotel Sheffield Meadowhall

We booked this for a business trip because it was close to a big event venue and seemed reasonably priced. We left within a couple of hours and didn't stay the night. The place was unmanned on arrival, with key safes for room keys. That part was fine, but the key return box on the front door was broken, so keys couldn't be returned securely. The room was disgusting, stained and dirty. The voile curtains were filthy, and the view was like a warzone. It reeked of stale smoke. The TV turned on but didn't work, and neither of its two remotes worked. That was a minor issue on its own, but after a long workday we just wanted to relax. The bathroom looked all right at first, until I saw the towel rail hanging off one screw and swinging, and the shower head barely held up by two cable ties. When I tried to shower, the tap-to-shower plunger took some effort to switch over. The shower head then swung around, spraying water all over the bathroom and me, fully clothed, because there was no screen or curtain. Tightening the cable ties didn't help much, since the clogged shower head sprayed in every direction. I gave up on showering, but the tap snapped off in my hand when I tried to turn it off. It was so rotten and corroded inside that it couldn't be reattached, leaving the bath tap running with no way to stop it. I reported it to the owner through the booking app and got no reply. We decided it wasn't appropriate to stay, so drove the hour and a bit home, losing time and money. The next morning I received a message saying they wanted to charge me £150 for damage and 'not following' policy. I still haven't heard back from the owner about the condition of the place or its broken facilities. Avoid!

Two years ago I booked a room and had trouble getting the key because the code for the key safe didn't work. I booked a room for my brother the following night, and the same thing happened. He'd just finished work at 10pm and couldn't get into his room. We found keys on the reception counter and let ourselves into his room. When we went to get food, the owner called me a slag and told me to get out of her hotel. I told her to do one because we'd paid, and she'd ignored our earlier calls about being unable to get in. When we got back, she sent three men round to attack us, and they bottled me in the head. DON'T STAY HERE, IT'S DANGEROUS!!!

A great little budget hotel. Check-in and check-out were easy, and I'd recommend it if you need an affordable room.

The stairs up to the room are so steep they're a death trap. My room, number 13, was a decent size but freezing, with no working heating and no staff on site to complain to. I left the small electric heater on all night and still woke up cold. The bath is only about 1m long, so soaking isn't really an option. The shower pressure was very low, though at least the water was warm. Please stay away, it's an absolute dump.
