The Spa Hotel

The bedroom air conditioning was wonderful. We slept really well, and my flowers were still fresh for the wedding. It was very hot, though, and I wished I could turn off the heated towel rail in the bathroom. We stayed the night before our wedding and had a celebration lunch in the Orangery. The staff helped us with all sorts of things, and our day was perfect.

The pool, sauna and steam room were relaxing and very well kept. I also had a wax on Sunday morning, when we checked out, and the service was wonderful. I felt so pampered and looked after that I nearly fell asleep. After a few personally stressful months, it was just the weekend I needed. My partner was very kind to spoil me. The restaurant and its staff deserve a special mention. Everyone was kind, patient and friendly, and the service was fantastic. They made us feel like the only guests there. I felt a bit bad asking for a burger and chips instead of something from the A La Carte menu, but the chef kindly made me a bacon cheeseburger and chips. It was the best burger I’ve ever had. The meat was tender, and I can vouch that the chef makes the chips from scratch. They were unlike any I’ve had. The A La Carte starters were innovative and so good, better than some top restaurants I’ve tried in London, at master chef level. My partner was blown away by his gnocchi main. We stayed on the weekend and night of Saturday night 17th January. The room was exceptional: we’d paid for a standard double, but it was spacious, with chairs, and felt more like a suite to me. The staff made everything feel special. I don’t remember names and lost the receipt with my server’s name, but I hope you can find the person who was serving room 108 that night and show them this review, along with the chef. If you stay at the hotel and skip the restaurant, you’re missing out. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

The staff were amazing, and parking was available. It’s a short, lovely walk into town through the common. The Spa is solid, and breakfast was decent. The afternoon tea was a real surprise, and I’m an afternoon tea snob. The Spa Hotel isn’t expensive, and the price feels fair, so I think it’s great value for money. Just don’t expect a five-star or especially nice four-star hotel. Thanks to all the staff for a lovely stay. I’d absolutely recommend it.

We finished our lovely pre-Christmas day out with afternoon tea in the Orangery. It was delicious, and they did a brilliant job of catering for my gluten-free, vegetarian diet, with plenty of choice. Earlier, we relaxed in the beautifully designed new wellness suite and had wonderful massages. It was a truly restorative day, just the festive treat we needed. We’ll definitely be back soon.
