I loved the flatbread, hands down my favourite, though the tapas were lovely too. The cocktails were good and the fires were stoked. I came in alone for Christmas Eve lunch, which can be awkward for a restaurant to accommodate, but I was welcomed warmly and felt genuinely looked after. Days was an amazing server, 11/10, and several other people checked on me and were kind as well. I loved it here. If you're wondering what to do in Fowlmere, where there isn't that much to do, definitely give it a try.

The affogato was the real surprise. I’m a self-proclaimed coffee snob and expected a “pub espresso,” but it turned out to be one of the best coffees I’ve had in a long time. Absolutely spot on. We went for small plates, though deciding what to order was tough, and the food was great. The staff were friendly and attentive, making it an easy place to be. The Chequers is somewhere you arrive already expecting to like, and it still overdelivers. It was busy, so I guess everyone already knows about it. Please keep it up, I’m emotionally attached to that coffee now!

The food was lovely, especially the baked camembert, pigs in blankets and cheesecake, but the staff were the best part. Zoe served us and got the balance just right, attentive and professional while still being delightfully friendly. We popped in for a celebratory lunch at this quaint old pub, with its low beams and uneven floors. I pride myself on finding fault, but I couldn’t fault Zoe or the venue today. Give her a raise.

This has become my favourite of the local pubs. I’ve never had a bad meal here, the staff are always outstanding, and the menu keeps evolving and getting better. Amazing pub!

A proper pub with dogs allowed, good beer and top-notch food. I had the lamb chops, which were really tender and full of flavour. My fiancé got the fish and chips, and it was more like whale and chips, absolutely massive 🐳
