Anchor Hotel

At £72 a night, I was surprised to find what felt like a shared hostel, with a communal bathroom and kitchen. The open corridors let in a lot of noise from other guests and road traffic, and breakfast wasn’t included. There were damp marks on the ceiling and the furniture was very tatty. The bed was comfortable, though, and the bedding and towels were very good quality. Including breakfast in the bar in the morning would have made the £72 feel better value.

It was a great little place to stay, and the staff were very friendly. The kitchen and bathroom are shared, but clean. We didn’t see anyone else, and the bath was huge. The bed was really comfortable, and the pub had a good atmosphere. There’s a takeaway right next door if you want one. We’d stay here again.

The dining room suite was disgusting and smelled awful. When we first came in, the staff seemed very dismissive and kept playing darts while one of them put the bar together. After that, she asked whether we’d booked and showed us our room. I went straight back out when she said we’d have to share the en suite. We hadn’t expected that.

Thanks for going to the ends of the earth to get us ice 🤣 The staff were great too.
