We chose to come back after a stay last October, when the staff and service were excellent. This time our flight was delayed by a day, so we lost a night and a breakfast we’d paid for. We arrived in the late morning after sitting at the airport since early morning and asked if we could have something from the breakfast table. They gave us a definite no, without even offering toast or fruit, despite our having paid for breakfast. We did get a coffee, but it was so weak it was barely drinkable. The hotel didn’t seem busy, but we were put in a very noisy room at the back, above the pool hall opposite, where loud music was playing. A disappointing stay.

There was a lovely man called Anderson behind the bar when my friend and I visited the pub today. He was polite, helpful and had a lovely demeanour, always looking for things to do and working hard to please us. We’ll be back.

Our airport driver suggested the Ponme door Hotel for cocktails. The hotel itself is lovely, but we couldn’t see a cocktail menu at the bar, so we asked the bartender. They took us down some stairs into what felt like another world: almost dark, softly lit, unusual decor, and an amazing cocktail menu. We stayed for hours. The atmosphere and staff were lovely, and it was an amazing experience. We went back to Pomme dor Hotel cafe bar the next day for coffee and pastry.

The location is great, opposite the bus station and close to the marina and town centre. The hotel is well appointed with what you’d expect from a five-star place, though the gym and pool are at a sister hotel. Our bed was a little hard, and there were no biscuits in the room. The staff felt a bit clinical at times.
