Harbour Hotel Salcombe

Our estuary-facing room was beautifully presented and well equipped, and the clean, stylish coastal decor throughout made the hotel feel airy and spacious. We only had one night, sadly, but our first stay in Salcombe couldn't have been better placed for looking around town. The friendly welcome on arrival set a lovely tone. Beth gave us fantastic spa treatments, and dinner at The Jetty was first class and delicious, with excellent service from all the restaurant staff. A swim and sauna in the small but perfectly formed pool the next morning, followed by the excellent continental buffet, set us up for the day. We couldn't have been happier with our choice and will definitely return. Thanks to the whole team for making our short visit so memorable.

The setting and view were memorable, and the staff we met, especially Elizabeth and Jack in the restaurant, were genuinely lovely and attentive. Still, we left disappointed and less looked after than we'd hoped for the price of the stay. We spent four nights at Salcombe Harbour Hotel for my birthday. The location is beautiful, but our room felt tired for its category and cost, with chipped and scuffed walls, carpet stains and stained shower grout. It didn't ruin the trip, but we'd expected more attention to detail in one of the hotel's best rooms. We'd paid in advance to eat at the hotel each night, but only dined there twice because the food was just okay. I couldn't eat the cod on the first night, which is unusual as it's normally one of my favourites, and we spent more than planned eating elsewhere. The only day we had time for the spa, it was closed because a child had become unwell in an unavoidable incident. These things happen, but when we raised everything at reception on our last evening, we were only told the information would be passed on. At checkout there was no acknowledgement, apology or gesture, and the cod was still on the bill.

Mike helped sort out a few problems that came up during our anniversary stay, and we were very grateful. His help has made us willing to return, knowing our expectations can be met. It's a beautiful hotel, with clean, lovely spa facilities and access to the sea down a set of small steps. Breakfast was very nice, with stunning views across to Mill Bay.

For my first visit to Salcombe, the hotel made an excellent base for exploring town. We stayed two nights on a spa break, and it was excellent value for everything included. The rooms were great, with lovely estuary views. Dinner came with the package, and the food and wine menus had a good selection, all very good. The spa treatments were among the best I've experienced, with attentive, excellent staff. I'd thoroughly recommend a stay.
