Breakfast was well worth adding, and there was plenty of parking. The room was clean and the bed was excellent, with decent cotton linen. For a budget hotel, I really had nothing to complain about. It’s handy for the airport and for getting around south and central Manchester. If you’re after luxury or a swanky modern TV, this probably won’t suit you. But with Manchester so ridiculously expensive, it’s a good affordable place for the night.

Their room had been booked by phone months earlier for a family get-together in Timperley at the start of December. When my family members arrived at 5.30pm, travelling from a distance, they were told there was bad news: someone who booked online that day had been given their room. The receptionist eventually found them a room at another B&B in Sale, which cost more, and gave them cash to cover the difference. Thank goodness they found out at 5.30pm and didn’t wait until later that night to check in. Eskdale made little effort to contact them and wasn’t particularly apologetic. It was a disgracefully shambolic booking system. Never again, lesson learned. I’d give zero stars if I could.

There’s a little bar downstairs with lots of seating, plus a garden at the back with benches. The service was excellent, and we had a really nice stay. We come to the area often to visit my son and need somewhere to sleep, so we decided to try Eskdale when it came up as an option. It’s a very large old house divided into rooms. Some parts could use a little TLC. Our room was spacious, with high ceilings, though the ceiling had a few cracks and peeling paint. The place is quite dated, but everything worked and was comfortable. The bathroom had a bath, but it took ages to fill, so we gave up. The bath panel was cracked and there were water stains on the ceiling from an old leak, but it was usable. We’d stay again. Our room was at the back, so there was no traffic noise, just the pigeons. 😂 If you’re looking for luxury, this probably isn’t the place. If you just need a bed and don’t care much about frills, it’ll do you well.

I booked it for family members visiting my wife and me from Ireland. They stayed for two nights and were pleased with everything the hotel provided. Their room was very clean, and the beds were comfortable for two ladies and one child.

We had a lovely short stay while visiting family nearby, and the staff were amazing, friendly and polite. The garden was a nice spot to sit with a drink, and the old building has lots of original character. Even though all the other rooms were booked, we couldn’t hear any guests from our room. The room was clean and nice, and the bedding was comfortable. The mattress was softer than I usually prefer, but it supported me well and I slept great. Breakfast was brilliant and great value, so it’s worth adding to your stay. I’m giving it four stars because some areas could do with a tidy-up and fresh paint. For comfort, food quality and staff, though, it’s five stars.
