The Riverside

We had a great night’s sleep, and the small bar had a pleasant bar lady and nice surroundings. We were upgraded to a room with a river view, which we really appreciated. Breakfast was pleasant enough. They don’t serve food throughout the day, so check first if that matters to you. It’s around a 10-15 minute walk to Salisbury Cathedral, and there’s ample free parking.

The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the bar had a good choice of drinks. The shuttle into and out of the centre came in handy in bad weather or when we were dressed up for dinner. Otherwise, the walk is quick and pleasant, away from the main road. Rooms on the river side have lovely views. The room coffee was horrid. There wasn’t an iron or board in the room, but staff were happy to bring them up. Given the hotel level and our upgraded room, I’d have liked a Nespresso machine or similar, and a small fridge would’ve been useful. We skipped breakfast at the property because it seemed expensive compared with the choices in Salisbury.

We needed a ground floor room, and the hotel upgraded us. It was lovely, especially the river view, and we really appreciated the help arranging it. We’re fairly light sleepers, and something on the outside wall, possibly heat pumps or air conditioning units, disturbed us at night. I’d definitely come back, but would request a different room. Lovely hotel, and I look forward to visiting again.

I stayed overnight for work nearby. The staff were very friendly, and the location was great. The market square is about a 20-minute walk, but the hotel also offers a free drop-off and pickup service in a brand new VW Transporter. Breakfast was plentiful, and the waitress was helpful and smiley. Recommended. I’ll come back next time I’m in the area.
