The location right on the river was lovely, with an easy walk into the town centre and cathedral, where we saw the Magna Carta dating to 1215. We enjoyed our four-night stay in a double deluxe room with bathroom, in the old part of the building. It had character, with medieval beams, was relatively spacious, and the bed was comfortable. The water was hot and everything worked. Breakfasts were generous, and we had meals in the dining room with beautiful views over the water meadows. Parking was convenient for a modest fee. It was also nice to sit by an open fire in the snug and meet other guests. The staff were friendly and helpful, and made us feel welcome.

The original features give the hotel plenty of character, and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Don't let the dated-looking decor in some photos put you off. We enjoyed the easy, pretty walk into Salisbury past the cathedral. Breakfast was excellent, and every staff member was polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. I'd definitely recommend it and hope to come back.

We stayed last night for a show in Salisbury, and had lunch in the restaurant. The food was fresh, delicious and reasonably priced, and Jenny was the perfect host. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and attractive, with a lovely river view. Thank you.

The first time we stayed, the room was lovely and had a river view. On our second visit we were assigned a small, dark, cold 'accessible' room. The bathroom towel rail didn't work, so it was too cold for either my husband or me to shower. They offered us another room for the second night, but moving with my disabled husband would have been too stressful, so I refused. The hotel staff did all they could to help, but the rude, uncaring letter I got after complaining was awful. Never again. Make sure you find out which room you're getting before you book.

The only thing that spoiled our wedding anniversary stay was the people next door, who came in drunk at midnight and woke us with a very loud argument. That's no fault of the hotel, though I wish people would show more consideration. Otherwise the hotel was really nice, with a huge room and bathroom, an amazing view over the river with the cathedral visible, and a delicious evening meal. We'd definitely stay again if we're in the area.
