Malvern Hotel

The shower had strong pressure and hot water whenever I needed it. The hotel is also well placed, very close to both the seafront and the local train station. For a low rate, I had a comfortable, pleasant stay. The staff were very nice, and my room was clean and tidy.

The only halfway decent thing was the food, but it was too expensive. The decor was awful, like I’d wandered into a jumble sale, and the creaky floorboards, clogged shower and water that was equally warm and cold made the bathroom a mess. A working bathroom was the least I expected. The bedding was disgusting. The sheets, which looked like tablecloths, were sandy, and the cleaner said they hadn’t been changed since the previous stay. The mattresses had visible stains too. When I mentioned them, a worker said the stains were spilled curry from a cleaner. The cleaner also walked into our room without asking. One worker seemed to smoke constantly. The only welcoming people seemed to be the young couple working in the kitchen. The place didn’t feel like a hotel to me, more like a Victorian workhouse dormitory, and it was the most repellent place I’ve ever stayed.

The room was okay, but there were several problems. The tap leaked, the bunk bed shook, and the toilet wouldn’t flush after I used it. Don’t sleep in room 28. The food was okay, though the shower was really cramped.

The service was the best I’ve ever had, and the waitress was so kind. My bed was really comfy and the room was spacious. The location was close to the beach and a pier with an arcade. For me, it was a five-star hotel.
