A cosy, warm little bolt hole, with some lovely treats left for us. The views are cracking, and the dark skies are brilliant for seeing stars.

We had a lovely five-night stay and will be back. The cottage was clean, comfortable and well equipped, with a well-stocked kitchen, good heating, piping hot water, and good internet plus Amazon and Netflix on the TV. It's peaceful, but still close to Scarborough for amenities. The hosts were friendly and helpful, and there's a dog-friendly garden. We found great off-lead walks for dogs in Bickley forest and Raincliffe Woods, and you can get onto the cinder Track from Scarborough to Whitby at several points.

We loved it so much that we booked another stay as soon as we left. The house is quiet, with amazing views, and just a short drive from the seaside. There’s a wood fire inside as well as central heating, and the summer house is a lovely spot to watch the sunset. We could see a horse in the field next door and woodpeckers in the garden while washing up. The kitchen was fully stocked, even with things like oil and freezer bags, and the bedrooms were spacious. Everything was great.

There’s plenty of room, with three good-sized bedrooms, a large lounge and dining area, a good-sized kitchen with a washing machine and dishwasher, and a bathroom with a shower. The cottage is beautifully decorated, with free WiFi and bed linen and towels included. We also liked the games cupboard, ample bookshelves, gorgeous views and lovely garden. The summer house is fantastic and has outdoor toys for children.

A really nice place in the country, run by lovely people. If you want to stay in, there's a massive, fully equipped Smart TV in the living room, despite what the decor might suggest. Otherwise, Scarbrough or Whitby are only a short drive away. The name Woodpeckers Cottage fits, too, so keep watch and you might spot one or two nearby.
