The room was clean and tidy, and the shower had good pressure and hot water. The view through the dirty window, with bird droppings on it, was of the bins and the staff smoking area. Not a great welcome, even by budget hotel standards. The dinner meal deal I bought through Premier Inn was awful. The food came from the adjacent Brewers Fayre. I've eaten at other places with this arrangement, so I thought I knew what to expect, but this Brewers Fayre was terrible. Don't buy the deal. Premier Inn needs to talk to its business partners.

We booked three rooms well in advance, two accessible and one standard double, and were told they'd be next to each other. Instead, they were spread through what felt like a maze, with none together. Most staff were pleasant, but one woman who partly served us in the restaurant and one of the room cleaners were exceptions. The cleaner left the place smelling of stale, ten-day-old body odour. Our room itself was nice enough, but the shower was disgusting. We had to tape the leaking pipe, and the shower seat was very mouldy. There were cobwebs by the extractor fan, which would have been easy to remove. The hotel has no parking, including no disability parking, so expect a long walk with luggage. Once inside, it's corridor after corridor and door after door. This wouldn't work for someone using a self-propelled wheelchair. Pubs on both sides were extremely noisy. With the windows shut it was too hot, but opening them wasn't an option. Breakfast was a complete mess. Photos show the lack of access and the note they left. The bacon, eggs, sausages and other hot food were made in advance and kept downstairs, and the lift wasn't working. Peanut butter packets were left with the other food, so because my son has a severe nut allergy, he couldn't eat due to the risk of cross-contamination. My partner uses a wheelchair and couldn't go downstairs to get food. We asked a staff member for help, but her attitude made us feel like we were asking to eat her lunch, and she acted as though she didn't have time. I could have fetched food for my partner, but that would take away her choice, and I didn't think it was right to decide for her. Access here was really poor. If you have mobility needs or allergies, avoid this place.

The room was clean, reception provided extra towels without question, and staff were kind to the children when we saw them. The reception team were also fantastic at check-in and gave us the information we needed. The room was a good size for two adults and two children. We stayed over the bank holiday weekend for a scooter run with the family. On the first evening we stayed in early because the children couldn't go into many bars for food after a certain time. There's no room service, and though our room was right by reception, it was a good walk to get food. Staff ordered it at the bar, then we were expected to carry two meals at a time with cutlery and balance the doors on the way back. I wasn't feeling well and skipped breakfast on two mornings, though I went down with the family. When I asked a young male staff member if I could take a coffee to the room in a paper cup, he said, “If I give you a cup to take out people will start putting bacon in boxes and making pack lunches to take out. You can buy a coffee to take back to your room.” It was very rude, especially as he'd seen me struggling with the little ones at 7:30 for breakfast. The usual menu offers weren't available because it was a bank holiday, only the full-price menu. I recommend getting the aircon checked in ROOM 5. Three of the four of us ended up with coughs, blocked noses and sore throats, which I put down to the lack of fresh air. You're on the coast, but the windows have no handles, so you can't open them. I really think that's what made us ill. The family room was too warm in the evening and needs a window that opens.

We found the hotel modern and very good, and the small extra cost for a Premier Plus room seemed worthwhile for the air conditioning and fridge. Neither comes as standard in basic rooms. The bed was comfortable, and we enjoyed breakfast at the on-site Brewers Fayre despite some negative comments from others. We couldn't fault it. Jackie was especially helpful with a minor problem in our original room. The reception is near McDonalds, and there's a handy One Stop shop owned by Tesco next door.

Kaitlin made my wife's birthday stay in Whitby really special. Before we arrived, she arranged a Premier plus Room with a lovely view of the sea and the Grand hotel, then added a birthday sign, a balloon and a complimentary bottle of wine. We stayed from Friday 6 March to Monday 9 March 2026, for my wife's visit to the place where Dracula came to life. I never got to meet Kaitlin in person, so apologies for that, but a massive thank you. She's a credit to her team and Premier inn. Kind regards, Sean and Elisabeth.
