The Maynard

I've stayed here a few times. It's close to the town centre and train station, and the place is made up of two connected buildings. Room quality depends on which one you get: some are spacious and lovely, while my current room is just okay. It's clean and bright, with plenty of tea and coffee. Breakfast isn't included.

I had a lovely stay with my Grand Daughter at the Maynard boutique hotel. The owner was lovely and helped me figure out where to park. Our ground floor room was spacious, lush and cosy, and there's a great cafe on site with really good coffee. Much recommended.

The guest book in the room was a great help, with ideas for things to do, see, eat and drink in Scarborough. We spent two nights and I'd stay here again if I return. We were moved to the sister hotel, the "Rowntree Lodge", across the road when we arrived. I was unsure at first, but we got a free upgrade from a double to a family room. It was clean and well stocked, and staff were happy to bring more when needed. I like very strong, milky coffee, and they sorted that out. The shower was better than most hotel showers I've had, and the pillows were incredibly comfortable. Each room also had a fan, which really helped my mother with her hot flushes. The location is quiet but still close, about a five minute walk, to the cliff tram into The Spa. A taxi to town was a reasonable £7.80, and there were pubs and food places within half a mile. One surprise I enjoyed: their Eggs Benedict comes with smoked streaky bacon instead of ham.

The room was spacious and very nice for four ladies, and the owner was friendly, lovely and accommodating. Breakfast was served across the way at the sister hotel, where the staff were lovely too. We all had a full English each morning. Mine was gluten free, and I didn't leave hungry.
