The menu at Gosforth Hall Inn looked excellent, and the dishes coming out of the kitchen seemed appetizing and high quality. That made it all the more disappointing when we were refused service. We were told the bar couldn’t handle any more food orders, even though the kitchen was clearly busy sending meals out. For a destination pub, being understaffed on one of the busiest weekends of the year is poor planning and a real letdown for guests. It’s an attractive, unpretentious place with plenty of rustic charm, but the way things were handled at peak time fell short. If the kitchen stops taking orders too early, it’s hard to count on getting a solid meal after a long day out.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the other guests were friendly too. The bar had a really easygoing feel. Our room was comfortable and perfectly serviceable, though it didn’t have much character. We were in the annex, so the rooms in the main building may be different. Breakfast was good quality and cooked just right. I found the five ingredients a little odd, but that’s just my preference for a full English, and I imagine it’d suit most people. We only stayed one night.

After an afternoon hike, we stopped at Gosforth Hall Inn for dinner on Saturday. We hadn’t booked, but they found us a table. The pies were packed with meat, there was a great selection, and the vegetables came out piping hot. One of the best pie meals we’ve had. Service was exceptional, and we’ll be back.

The rooms are great and most of the staff were great too. The manager was especially unprofessional when challenged. The food was absolutely disgusting, poor quality and vile. They advertise Moet on their website, but charge £45 for a cheap brand. They need to update the site so it’s accurate. It was the worst meal I’ve ever had in the Lakes, really disgusting. Other comments mention cheap food and rude staff. Iceland is actually much better. I’d say don’t waste your money.

We stayed in a cosy annex room with a decent bed and a nice, powerful walk-in shower. Our evening meal was lovely, especially the lamb Madras, and they also have a selection of proper pies. Breakfast was perfect too, and there’s a great beer garden. It was our first time at Gosforth Hall, and we enjoyed the stay. Recommended if you’re visiting the West Lakes.
