Angecroft Park

The cabin needs updating. Cold air came through a gap in the lounge double doors, and the water pressure kept sputtering on and off. The shower only had cold water, so we had to heat pans of water to run a bath. I wouldn’t stay here again.

We had everything we needed in the lodge, and staff were around if anything came up. It’s a remote spot, so we made sure to shop on the way in. We ended up driving out each day and loved the scenery, including St. Mary’s Loch, Grey Mare’s Tail and Devil’s Beeftub, plus we spent a day in Edinburgh. The area itself is beautiful and very quiet, just right for getting away from the bustle. I expected poor signal or no internet, but Tesco/O2 service was actually great.

The customer service was dreadful. I complained about the dirt and the stained carpet and sofas, the clumps of hair, and the damp, mouldy smell. A man said he was a volunteer and would pass it on, but nobody got back to me after I also phoned Gary, whose number was displayed. The next day I returned to report the slow, broken shower and again heard nothing. My wife was cut by an exposed metal corner on the bed. The oven was filthy, the hood didn’t work, and the kitchen had very little in it. The main gate catches in the gravel and has to be lifted to move. I’m looking to ask for a refund. Avoid this place.

This was our fifth stay at Angecroft Park, but the November visit was easily the worst. The bin areas were full the whole time, and the lodge was dirty and mouldy. We found mice in the cupboard under the sink at the end of the stay. The kitchen utensils were so filthy we had to wash everything before using it, and the hoover was broken. When the water went off, our calls weren’t answered, so I went to the shop to find someone. They said it should be back soon, but it was still poor the next day. Check-in felt unwelcoming too: nobody answered the bell or the number on the door, and when a woman finally came, she just asked if I was checking in, handed me keys and pointed out the end lodge without taking any details. The park could really thrive with better wardens.
