Pretty Maid House B&B

We stayed for a week and loved it. The rooms were just right and had more than we’ve found at other B&Bs. Breakfast is made to order, and Andy’s a great chef. Andy and Sue were such welcoming, friendly hosts and went out of their way to accommodate us. We’ll definitely be back to Pretty Maid. Thanks to them both.

The owners were incredibly kind and helpful, and breakfast was generous, well cooked and excellent value. We found this one-night stay better value than the nearby Premier Inn. The location was easy to reach, the bed was comfortable, and our average-sized room was clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom toiletries basket was a nice touch. We were disappointed to be woken very early on Sunday by a loud TV or radio, presumably from nearby guests. We don’t often get a child-free night or a chance for a lie-in. Apart from that, it was a pleasant stay.

The breakfast was excellent, served promptly in its own dining room. You choose your food and time the night before. There are two places for an evening meal within easy walking distance, and the rear garden has lots of birdlife, though we didn’t use it in January. The house was good value, especially if you book directly with the owners. It was a little hard to find after dark, but had secure parking and a warm welcome. The road outside is busy. We were glad to have rear room 3, as the front could be noisy, particularly with the window open. Our room was clean and warm, with a large comfortable bed, a small fridge and fresh milk, plus good tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits by the kettle. There was only one upright chair, so relaxing meant sitting on the bed. The TV worked well and Wi-Fi was free. The en-suite was warm, with plenty of towels and a roomy shower. The shower floor got slippery when wet. I mentioned that a rubber mat or grab handle would be useful.

Andy and Sue were the best part of our four-night stay in May 2023. They were gracious, fun to talk to and helped us feel at home, offering suggestions and fine-tuning our plans each day. Pretty Maid made an excellent base for exploring Kent, and we got as far as Dover without any trouble. Breakfast had a great view, fresh tea and plenty of food. We tried nearly every menu option, and everything was cooked perfectly, with enough variety to keep us happy each morning. The rooms were spacious and clean, refreshed daily with tea supplies. We loved our stay and plan to visit again.
