The self-catering rooms had everything we needed, and getting there was easy: after booking, you receive your room number and can drive right up whenever you arrive, with the room ready for you. The cabin idea is fantastic. This was my first stay at the Vigo Retreat, and it won't be my last. It's also very convenient for Brands Hatch racing circuit.

We'd come back. The cabins are great for a short stay, and it's good value in a peaceful spot where you can relax.

I booked B&B, but between the two of us for all three days, breakfast amounted to one small shop-bought croissant and one child-sized bottle of milk. That was it, not even that each day. We bought bread and butter ourselves and used the little toaster in the SHED, turning the bread over and doing it in two goes because it was twice as big as the toaster. Calling cabin 2 a cabin doesn't change what it is: a very poorly kept 12x8 SHED. The door doesn't fit its frame, leaving huge gaps that ruin privacy and let in the cold. I stuffed blue roll into them, but it barely helped against the freezing air, even with the small portable radiator. A hole in the floor beside the small fridge added to the chill, and switching off the shower extractor left another open passage for cold air. There was no hot water for washing hands after using the toilet. With two suitcases, we had to lay one in the shower just to have room to move. I gave one star only because zero stars wasn't allowed. Absolutely shocking. The photos say enough.

We'd read the online reviews before arriving and were a bit nervous, but when we got to the cabin around 5pm, it was easy to find and much nicer than people had made it sound. It was clean and tidy, with a full-size double bed, mattress topper and clean bedding, plus the TV, kettle, toaster and microwave listed in the description. There were clean towels too, though we couldn't use them properly because there was NO hot water AT ALL. We tried everything on the wall instructions and ended up boiling a kettle for hot water. The setting was lovely. There weren't beautiful views in every direction, but some spots had great views, and it was a short walk to nature trails and local pubs. For a little over £50 a night, it was dry, clean and had electricity, better than some pricier places I've stayed. My partner and I had a lovely evening and would come back if the hot water worked. We might try the barn next time.

For peace and quiet and a different kind of stay, we'd definitely return. This is a really pretty, unusual retreat that feels deep in the countryside even though it's close to sevenoaks. The cabins are basic but very clean, with all the amenities: bathroom, TV, tea, coffee, kettle and microwave. The boat-style cabin is beautifully decorated inside, and although its bathroom is outside, it's stylish too. The yurt is lovely as well. The self-catering barns are just great, and host Andy is super kind and helpful. It's a bit different from a hotel, in a good way.
