The value is exceptional for the price, and I’ll be back. I arrived late after a wedding, and the manager gave me a warm welcome and was happy to accommodate the late check-in. My room was spotless and quiet, with clean towels, everything I needed, a perfectly fine shower room and a TV with all channels. I slept well, and there was plenty of parking. Some other reviews seem unfair given this clearly isn’t a luxury hotel. It’s worth booking directly, as Booking dot com charges a premium and doesn’t offer decent check-in or check-out times.

Our first-floor family room felt badly neglected. The carpet looked as though it had gone years without a proper clean, and there was mould in the bathroom and a musty smell throughout. The bath side panel was broken, and the shower kept malfunctioning and scalded my husband. I wouldn't recommend booking here. Very poor.

The room was damp-smelling and dusty, with mould in the bathroom, a water stain on the ceiling and a tiny, smelly bathroom. Flushing the loo made the shower overflow. In the summer heat, the radiator was stuck on and held in place with one screw and a tie; nearly every window had been painted shut. Even the wall-mounted TV looked as if it was only staying up by luck. The place seems old and worn, though it may once have been nice. Breakfast wasn't very good, and some of it was cold. At check-in, the man at the desk wanted £4 in cash, then another £10 cash for breakfast and parking. He scanned my card but couldn't take card payment. Avoid this hotel.

I was given a front room on the first floor, and maybe I got lucky with it. The place could use an update, but it's right by the train station and wasn't as bad as some reviews suggested. The room was clean enough, the bed was comfy, and I slept well. Fine for a night.

I ended up thinking about sleeping in the car. The family room had holes in the walls and doors, a broken plug socket and damp around the shower. At £98 for one night, the price is hard to believe for a room in that state. Breakfast was just OK, and that's why it gets the one star.
