The Birkdale Guest House

We couldn’t have picked a nicer place for our arrival in the UK, and we’re so glad we came to the Isle of Wight. After a long flight from Australia, Colin and Lesley welcomed us and we felt at home straight away. They even left little extras in the room, including homemade biscuits and local lollies. Birkdale Guest House is handy for the old village, with lots of places to eat just a short walk away. It’s also close to Shanklin Chine and the beautiful Esplanade. We didn’t have a car, but local buses were frequent, efficient and nearby. Our room had lovely decor and was spacious and comfortable. Everything was fresh and clean, including the roomy bathroom with its big soft towels and heated towel rail. There was so much choice at breakfast, and the food was delicious. The fruit salad was the best I’ve ever had. Thank you, Lesley and Colin.

Colin and Leslie were brilliant hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were comfortable, and breakfast was superb with lots of choice. It’s a fantastic place to stay, close to everything.

Lesley and Colin really go above and beyond to make a stay special, and I can’t wait to return in May. Breakfast had an amazing range of choices and the food was outstanding. Our room was decorated to an exceptionally high standard and was immaculate. The bed was comfortable, with quality pillows and linen, and the shower was superb. There were lovely toiletries and large fluffy towels. We also appreciated the extras: a fridge, fresh milk, spring water and homemade biscuits alongside the tea and coffee. Easily the best B&B we’ve stayed in.

This was our second visit to The Birkdale, and it won’t be our last. Lesley and Colin, and Sarah too, are perfect hosts. They’ve thought of everything, from the welcome and spotless rooms to the high quality products, little extras in the room and at breakfast, and the breakfast menu itself. It’s the best B&B we’ve stayed in anywhere. We left wishing we could have stayed longer.
