Kingfield Boutique Hotel

We arrived early and asked whether we could check in ahead of time. It was arranged without any hassle, and the staff were lovely and ready to help if we needed anything. The clean, comfortable self-contained space was also somewhere I could work. Parking was free, safe, and easy. It was great value and just right for our needs, being near the place of our appointment the next day. I’d stay again if I needed to be in this part of Sheffield overnight, and would recommend it to family and friends.

We booked through booking.com for an event, but an hour before check-in we were told the property was double booked and that we’d need to cancel if we wanted our money back. Booking.com put us on a three-way call with Kingfield. The employee claimed we had cancelled and misunderstood what they’d said, but Booking.com didn’t believe them. The hotel then gave in and said they’d provide a room. We drove over from Manchester, only to be told at the property that there was no room for us. From reception, the place looked run down and cheaply fitted out. Don’t book here, it’s a scam!

I ended up losing £150, but at least I didn’t have to stay two more nights in that HMO. I’d give the place zero stars if Google allowed it. I’ve stayed in hotels for work for years. My usual place was full, so I found this one on Booking.com and it looked alright at first. I’d booked the wrong week, but the staff did fit me in at short notice. The shabby entrance made me uneasy, so I asked to see the room. The bed looked clean, though the sheets looked as if they’d been pressed with a brick. The owner asked me to submit a free cancellation request and pay them directly, instead of changing the dates through Booking.com, where I’d have had some protection. Once inside, it felt like a house of multiple occupancy with self-contained rooms, not a hotel. The room smelled strongly of cannabis, people were about in the early hours, slamming doors and walking the corridors. I got about 50 minutes of sleep, wearing my gym towel, T-shirt and shorts, with a T-shirt over the cheap pillow. Then I left the keys at reception and booked another hotel. Staff later emailed through Booking.com to ask if everything was okay. I explained the smell, the banging and that, although the bed looked clean, it didn’t feel clean. I asked for a refund for the nights I’d lost. They refused, saying there was no evidence, that they’d checked in with me several times, and that camera recordings proved it. I expect they’ll give a contradictory response. Avoid this place if you have any self-respect. If you want to spend your nights around weed or in substandard accommodation, I’d recommend it.
