Premier Inn Sheffield City Centre Angel St

The Premier Plus room felt tired and not enough of a step up from a standard room to justify the extra cost. There was chipped paint in both the bedroom and bathroom, and cleaning seemed to cover the busy areas more than the rest. Still, I'd stay again if I needed a convenient central base. We were there at the weekend for a show at the City Hall. The location was handy for city centre attractions, although the nearby streets felt run down, with graffiti and closed businesses. We had little contact with staff and didn't use the restaurant, but both front desk agents we met were friendly.

Wendy, Nettie, and Chef Corey were lovely, and the food and drinks tasted great. The staff were really friendly. The hotel itself was clean and spacious and the team were amazing. The only letdown was the city centre area, which isn't great.

The free WiFi is handy, but it's throttled. Paying extra for faster access isn't worth it, and your own mobile network may work better. Check-in is at 3pm and checkout at 12:00pm. Premier Inn - Sheffield City Center is right in the middle of town, with Lidl, McDonald's, Poundland, GDK, and Wendy's only minutes away. The staff are welcoming, and the rooms are clean and tidy.

Breakfast was poor: the poached eggs came sitting in water, the hash browns were soft, and there was no muesli, yoghurt, or fruit salad. There weren't enough bowls or cutlery either. Most tables were dirty, and it seemed understaffed, with just three people including the cook. My room was above the dining area, so I heard chairs scraping and loud voices until just after midnight. The soundproofing wasn't as good as at other Premier Inns. It was cold in the room, and the climate control only blew cool air. I ended up sleeping with my head under the duvet; without the noisy system running, the temperature seemed to rise a little. Reception, though, was excellent and friendly. Premier Inn had cancelled my stay at another city centre hotel without telling me in the email where I would be moved. I spent two hours on the phone sorting things out. The other hotel left a message saying I would stay here, but Angel Street had no record of it. The receptionist gave me a room right away without fuss.
