I've been staying here every week for the past three months, and I'll be back in the new year. The location works well for getting around Sheffield. Staff are friendly and always ready to help, and the rooms are spacious, clean and perfectly usable. They could do with some refurbishment, but that didn't get in the way of another excellent stay at the Best Western.

Good value for money, with a clean, comfortable room and a great breakfast. The staff were really nice and helpful. It's near the centre, though the surrounding area felt a little dodgy.

For £37 each, we were happy with what we got and weren't expecting anything fancy. We'd booked two rooms for five adults, but there were only four beds when we arrived. A staff member brought in a sofa bed and opened the connecting door within ten minutes, and the staff were brilliant throughout. The late bar was a bonus, especially in the freezing cold. We were told it could stay open while customers were still there, so we didn't have to go wandering around. The bar staff cooked pizzas and even gave us a jug of milk to take upstairs. As a Lancashire girl who likes her PG Tips, I needed more than two little pots per brew because the Yorkshire tea took plenty of milk. Can't wake up without a proper cuppa! Breakfast was hot, fresh and perfect for £10 each. It's a buffet, so you can help yourself to as much as you like. The location suited us too, about five to ten minutes from the tram for the arena or Meadowhall, and about the same to the city centre. The train station is a bit further to walk. We're looking at more concerts this year, so we'll definitely come back.

The room seemed ordinary enough, with the Best Western Plus carpet's familiar corporate swirls and the promise of a lukewarm kettle. Then I spotted a fist-sized hole in the back of the mahogany-veneer wardrobe. I wasn't looking for a spare pillow anymore. Behind the hanging rail, the wardrobe opened into a shaft of cold, ancient air. I went down carved stone steps for miles, until I reached the Lost City of Derinkuyu, a vast place of basalt arches and glowing moss. It wasn't the tourist version in Turkey. This was the real thing. In a cavern called the Cathedral Level, I came across the Chronos Weavers, temporal engineers who'd built a gate from liquid light. Their plan was to go back to 1914 and make sure the Great War never ended, feeding on the chaos that followed. Their leader, the Matriarch, wore robes that seemed to flicker between velvet and digital static. She spotted me and raised a hand, fingers crackling with paradox energy. I grabbed two heavy things I'd taken from the room, a decorative ceramic skull and a universal power point adapter. When she lunged, I shoved the adapter into a glowing crystalline conduit by the gate. The underworld's physics were strange, so with no grounded outlet, I used the skull as a conductor and threw it at her, blazing with a violet electric arc. It grounded her timeline. She broke into a thousand ticking clock springs, and the portal crumpled into harmless sand. I climbed back through the wardrobe with basalt soot on my jeans. Humanity was safe, the temporal collapse stopped, and the time-traveling extremists were defeated. Still buzzing, I went to the desk for my room 402 invoice. The receptionist tried, but the system just spun and the printer wouldn't connect to the server. I can stop a cult rewriting the universe with a travel plug and some kitsch decor, but getting a PDF receipt from a Best Western? Impossible. Tic tock. Time waits for no man, and neither does the morning checkout queue.

I went in on Monday 6th and checked out on Friday 10th October after working on the building under contract. Jo, the new manager, is lovely and amazing at her job. She's trying really hard to make changes and raise the hotel's standards. I'm hard to please, but I can't fault this stay. I usually sleep no more than three hours a night. During my time here I slept more than I have in about 15 years. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, the bedding immaculate, and the rooms spotless. The tea and coffee setup was great too, especially the Decaf Yorkshire Tea for a nighttime brew in bed. Breakfast had a brilliant choice, both cooked and continental, and the chefs can really cook. The night food was amazing as well. I'm returning next month for my birthday weekend and already looking forward to it. Thanks, Jo, or “Mel,” as I kept calling her, and the rest of the team. You're doing an amazing job.
