We booked two nights for my boyfriend’s birthday, and check-in was really quick. Our room overlooked the park and was surprisingly large. It was spotless, and even though we don’t usually have hot drinks, we appreciated the good range of things with the coffee machine and kettle, especially the chocolate bars. Coming and going was simple. The staff were friendly and helpful again when we asked about food options on our last night, offering alternatives. We were also impressed by the drink prices at the bar. On the day we left, we asked at 10:15am about a late check-out, with check-out normally at 12pm, and were pleased it was available. I can be really weird about cleanliness, so I can’t stress enough how clean the room was. I usually pack fluffy socks because I can’t stand bits on my feet. I went to the bathroom early and forgot them, and there wasn’t a trace of anything on my feet! The only niggle, not enough to lose a star, was that the plug was too small for the hole, so I couldn’t have a bath. Sorry for running the water so long before I noticed! As usual, we stripped the bed and left everything as tidy as we could. Thank you, we’d definitely stay again. Room 609!

It served my needs well for my trips to see the European figure skating championships, with a Supertram stop nearby. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable, and coffees and similar supplies were topped up on request or by going to reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s not the best hotel I’ve stayed in, and WiFi and breakfast cost extra. Sadly, I’d avoid the breakfast. It wasn’t the best.

The woman at reception was friendly when I checked in, but the WiFi I paid for didn’t work in either room. Then, two hours after we arrived, at 12 minutes past midnight, two very unprofessional women accused me of smoking and gave me five minutes to leave. I don’t smoke, and I doubt I’ll get a refund. After trying to reason with them, I decided I was dealing with people who didn’t know what they were doing and booked at the ibis next door. It was much cleaner as soon as you walked in.

The location was a real plus, about five minutes on foot from the tram stop and town centre, and 15 minutes from the train station. Our basic room was clean with enough cupboard space, and reception could lend out things like a hairdryer and iron. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful. There’s no regular housekeeping. You can hang a sign on the door to request tea, coffee, milk or toilet rolls, and once they emptied our overflowing bin too. The shower has a fixed head, so bring a shower cap if you don’t want to wash your hair each time. WiFi costs a lot, especially since it kept cutting in and out. We tried breakfast once and wouldn’t recommend it. Most of it was tasteless, some advertised items were missing, including porridge, mushrooms and fruit salad, and the coffee was only lukewarm.
