The parking situation made this stay especially frustrating. I entered my registration correctly in the ANPR system, yet got a fine for the first night of my four-night stay. I appealed, provided proof I was a hotel guest, and they acknowledged the registration had been entered correctly, but upheld the charge, reducing it to £20. I tried calling the hotel and left four or five messages, but nobody answered or called back. The rooms are very basic and small, and food service wasn't available. The pub next door stops serving evening meals around 19:30, so returning later leaves nowhere within walking distance to rely on for dinner. There are better places to stay in the village center. I wouldn't choose to return.

We pulled into the car park after noticing smoke and a smell coming from our vehicle, hoping to check what was happening and call a nearby garage. We were worried it might catch fire and tried to find someone at the pub who could help. After 11 minutes there, we left. A few days later a parking fine arrived. We appealed, then appealed again, and both were denied. A broken-down car with smoke pouring out being there for 11 minutes seems like a very unreasonable reason to fine someone. I would avoid the pub, given management is willing to use a company with so little compassion or understanding.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were helpful and nice. Breakfast is a simple buffet, cereal or toast with jam, and dinner was decent basic pub food. I do think the rooms are overpriced for the location and what the place is, though maybe that's how the pub survives when evenings are so quiet. The main issue was the lack of soundproofing between the pub and bedroom floor. Music and conversation carried up loudly, even though the music didn't seem that loud when I was in the bar. Luckily I had earplugs and still slept fine.

We came back from dinner to find that the hotel and bar were already locked, and we couldn't get to the parking tablet to enter our registration. It was just after 9pm, despite the sign saying everything closed at 10pm. The receptionist hadn't mentioned the tablet at check-in, and we've since received a parking charge. They also don't serve food after 8pm. The room itself was small and filthy, with dust everywhere. Its mattress was lumpy, the springs dug in, and it overhung the bed frame. In the bathroom, fixtures were coming off the walls and the shower and fittings were badly done. The place didn't feel inviting. The receptionist was unhelpful and hurried us to our room after check-in. The bar and restaurant were nearly empty on a Friday night, which seemed odd. We won't stay again, and I'd advise others against it.

The staff were pleasant and helpful, but for the prices we paid, the rooms and service should have been better. Expect double beds rather than king size, fans instead of air conditioning, and showers with no baths. Our room also had a faulty tap and bathroom lock. We had two rooms, and the cleaner appeared to make only half the beds and didn't top up tea or coffee. Breakfast was disappointing too. Continental breakfast was included, but there were very few pastries, so some people had only toast and cereal. It wasn't a bad place, just not what customers might expect at those prices. I'd have rated it higher as a cheap and cheerful B&B.
