The pub is a characterful, traditional English place, and we’d recommend it for the warm hospitality and superb food. We visited The Chetnole Inn yesterday for lunch with friends and Maria gave us a very warm welcome. The freshly made beef stew was hearty and delicious, followed by the best bread and butter pudding I’ve tasted.

The food was delicious, and the portions were generous for the price. We stopped in for dinner and found the whole place clean and cosy. The woman working at the bar was really lovely too. Definitely recommend.

The Summer Pudding came with so much clotted cream it nearly finished me off, but it was a great way to end the meal. Before that, my partner had a huge Brie and Bacon sandwich on thick doorstop bread, packed with crispy bacon, brie and caramelised onion. My ham, egg and chips passed my pub meal test, with thick ham and chunky chips that were crisp outside and fluffy inside. The hazy bitter was tasty and unusual, and I could easily have had a couple more. It was busy on Tuesday lunchtime, but the service stayed friendly and efficient even though one person was handling it. The food was good value, proper pub fare without anything fancy, and the traditional decor felt right for a pub.

We sat in the beer garden, which was pretty, well kept and peaceful, with birds singing. Inside, the Chetnole Inn was clean and beautifully decorated. Landlady Maria and the rest of the staff were lovely. There was a good menu with daily specials, and our food came quickly and was nicely presented. Thank you, we’ll be back soon.

We came in for a big family Christmas dinner. The pub was nice, the food was good and the service was excellent.
