This is a review of the restaurant only, I didn't stay here. The staff and atmosphere were lovely, and I can't fault either. The food, though, wasn't good. Apparently this was a new menu, and we tried several dishes but disliked them all. I love cooking and have lots of friends who are chefs, so I know menus need proper testing, balanced flavours and variety. Here the flavouring in each dish felt off, the components didn't work together, and most of the food was dry with nothing moist to balance it. Vegetables were rarely included, so the dishes felt unhealthy. We overheard another table saying much the same. For only a little more than we paid, you can get a three-course meal with light bites in between at The Walrus, a Michelin restaurant not far away. Since it was the first day of a new menu, I expected them to ask for feedback, but no one did. That was a shame. I hope they ask more people for their views before making the menu permanent.

The car park is very tight and spaces can't be reserved, so it's first come, first served. There's a large car park across the road. The rooms were very clean, the food was very good, and the staff were friendly. Right in the centre of Shrewsbury, it's ideal for the town centre. I'd recommend the place.

Breakfast was spot on, and Lena was lovely. The bed, mattress, and towels were all really comfortable, too. The front room does get quite noisy because the hotel is right in town, but the service desk did everything they could to meet my needs when we arrived. We had a very nice stay in this charming little hotel and I'd definitely come back.

After a sleepless overnight flight, Jess kindly arranged a quiet room for me. The hotel had plenty of charm, and it was easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and parks. I'd stay here again.

The sea bass portion was honestly tiny, about the size of a fish finger, with just one little strip of fennel. For a dinner for six that came to nearly £400, that was disappointing, even with three bottles of wine included. I asked the lovely waitress about it and she offered to leave it off the bill, but it was still charged. When I mentioned it again, she took £6 off the £22 plate. I was also charged another £4.50 to swap potatoes for extra greens because I can't have starch. Not impressed, and I won't be going back.
